When Karl Lagerfeld turned his couture show into a giant garden, complete with 300 mechanic flowers that opened in bloom during the show, it must have been a meeting of minds with our very own Sam McKnight, the most green-fingered hairdresser in the industry. Speaking backstage Sam said: “Hair in the Chanel garden was in soft, romantic, loose braids, some fastened with a plastic flower on the end and accented with veils and hats a-plenty”. And what was Sam’s technique? To extend the length of all the models’ hair and to braid it into a fine point so it tapered in child-like fashion. To give hair playable texture, he blow-dried hair smooth and made it workable with Oribe’s Hair Texturiser and finished off the style with a smoothing spritz of Sebastian Forte Hairspray. “It was important to me that the hairstyle was light and natural”, Sam explained. “I wanted it to have a feeling as if blown by a gentle garden breeze”. Chanel hair? Easy breezy. All that remains is to get our hands on one of those couture hair accessories… Perhaps not so easy!
